DECEMBER 2003

COVER STORY
Hartsfield Runway Spans Interstate

Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler have long reigned as Atlanta’s brashest couple, but once Kathryn Masters and David Casey finish the ambitious construction project they’re leading at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, O’Hara’s and Butler’s title may well be gone with the wind.

    FEATURE STORIES
High-Rolling Monorail Unlocks Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas' newest wonder boasts no fabulous stage shows, high-stakes games of chance, or exotic themed attractions. Instead, the glitzy desert city is about to get a public transit system befitting its reputation for spectacle. Early next year, a fully automated $650-million monorail will start whisking visitors quickly through the heart of this fast-growing metropolis.

Designer Serves Up Construction As a Main Course
Patrons at the new Mie N Yu Restaurant in Washington, D.C., have important choices to make besides what to eat. They also have to decide if they want their dinner in Turkey or perhaps Tibet because each room in the thematic restaurant is decorated to evoke a country or culture located along the ancient Silk Road. Their design is the result of another ancient idea, the master builder concept, making Mie N Yu the crossroads of high design and design-build.

Owner Says New T-Bones Stadium Is Very Well Done
In August 2002, Ehlert Development Corp. announced that it was moving the Duluth, Minn., Dukes of baseball’s independent Northern League. Nine months later, the Kansas City, Kan., T-Bones ran onto the field of their brand-new, $14-million stadium in front of a standing-room-only crowd of over 4,500. Like a winning season, design-build delivery was essential to the success of Community America Ballpark.
