Charles Pankow to Receive DBIA Lifetime
Achievement Award
Charles Pankow has been selected as recipient of the 2003
Brunelleschi Medal for his lifetime commitment to design-build
and integrated services. Pankow founded the California based
Pankow Cos. in 1963. He has made significant contributions
to the design and construction industry through his outstanding
leadership, public speaking and writing. In addition, Pankow
is noted for inventing processes for manufacturing both hollow
concrete piles utilizing a slipform technique and slipforming
vertical air conditioning ducts. He also has developed innovative
systems for increasing project automation, including total
on-site precasting of structural and architectural elements
and slipforming all vertical members of the structure. He
has developed systems that have optimized the use of precast
architectural elements by designing them to serve as formwork
for poured-in-place structural elements.
Pankow will be presented with the Brunelleschi Medal Oct.
9, 2003, in Orlando at the DBIA annual conference. This is
the fourth such award presented by DBIA and the Foundation
